WORKING GROUPS
DRONERESPONDERS is committed to advancing the safe, effective, and innovative use of UAS in public safety operations. To foster collaboration and expertise, the organization has established specialized Working Groups that address key areas of UAS integration and response. These groups serve as knowledge hubs for professionals and agencies, facilitating best practices, policy development, and operational improvements across critical sectors:

DFR WORKING GROUP
The Drone as a First Responder (DFR) Working Group is a nationwide initiative bringing together DFR program agencies, organizations interested in launching DFR programs, NGOs, government agencies, industry leaders, and academia. This open forum fosters collaboration across diverse sectors to advance the implementation and effectiveness of DFR operations in public safety.
The group’s primary mission is to learn, share, collaborate, and engage with the FAA on regulatory issues affecting DFR programs. Through best practices, policy advocacy, and exploration of emerging technologies, members work together to enhance operational success and drive progress within the field.
Meetings & Participation
The DFR Working Group meets virtually on the third Thursday of each month at 4 PM EST for a one-hour session. Participation is open to all interested professionals, agencies, and organizations. To join the DFR Working Group, email Steven Katz at sk@flyinglioninc.com for access and further details.
cUAS WORKING GROUP
The Counter-UAS (CUAS) Working Group serves as a dedicated forum for tracking developments in airspace security and drone mitigation strategies. This group provides updates on key areas, including legislation, national strategies, technological advancements, and emerging challenges in counter-UAS operations.

The CUAS Working Group brings together professionals from public safety, government agencies, industry, and research institutions to collaborate on solutions, share insights, and address evolving airspace security concerns.

The group meets periodically based on available updates, ensuring members receive timely and relevant information on critical CUAS issues.

Participation is open to those interested in advancing CUAS efforts. To join, email David Smith at David.Smith@vsp.Virginia.gov for more details and access to upcoming discussions.

FLOATATION DEVICE WORKING GROUP
The Flotation Device Working Group (FLOAT WG) is dedicated to developing best practices and a standardized approach for deploying flotation devices to assist individuals in distress in bodies of water. This initiative brings together experts and stakeholders from various fields to refine techniques, improve deployment methods, and enhance overall effectiveness in water rescue operations.

The FLOAT WG is committed to advancing life-saving UAS capabilities by exploring safe, efficient, and practical solutions for aerial flotation device deployment. Through research, testing, and collaborative discussions, members work to establish clear guidelines and operational standards that can be adopted across emergency response agencies.

This working group meets periodically based on project updates and developments. Discussions focus on technology advancements, case studies, and regulatory considerations to ensure optimal implementation of flotation device deployment strategies.

Interested individuals and organizations are encouraged to participate. To join the FLOAT WG, email Arcady Shteynberg at arcady@theomada.com for more details and upcoming meeting schedules.
SAR WORKING GROUP
The Search and Rescue (SAR) Working Group is dedicated to advancing the role of drones in SAR operations by identifying best practices, sharing lessons learned, and influencing regulatory changes to support safer and more effective mission outcomes.

The SAR Working Group is committed to enhancing drone-assisted SAR capabilities through collaboration, research, and advocacy. Members work together to refine operational strategies, promote standardized procedures, and address policy challenges that impact SAR efforts.

This working group is new and will meet virtually, providing a platform for SAR professionals and organizations to exchange insights, discuss emerging technologies, and explore regulatory improvements.
