About

The airspace above critical infrastructure, government facilities, industrial sites, utilities, transportation assets, and public venues is more active than ever before. While the vast majority of drone operations are lawful and routine, organizations increasingly recognize the need for personnel at every level to understand how to observe, document, and report aerial activity accurately and consistently. Drone Defense Protocol: Spot & Report is a practical awareness training program designed to transform everyday employees, contractors, security personnel, field staff, and operational teams into effective contributors to their organization's airspace awareness capability. The course introduces learners to the foundational concepts of drone observation and reporting while eliminating the need for specialized aviation knowledge or technical expertise. Participants will learn how drone activity fits within the broader Drone Defense Protocol framework and why frontline observations often serve as the first and most important source of information when an aerial event occurs. Through a structured and easy-to-remember methodology, learners will develop the ability to identify and communicate six critical observation elements: Location, Approximate Altitude, Size & Configuration, Movement Behavior, Duration, and Direction of Departure. The course emphasizes objective observation rather than interpretation. Learners are taught to report facts, not assumptions, allowing trained assessment and response personnel to make informed operational decisions based on reliable information. Special attention is given to the use of standardized language, ensuring reports are clear, consistent, and actionable across an organization. Throughout the program, real-world examples, knowledge checks, reporting scenarios, and practical exercises reinforce the use of the six-element reporting framework and the standardized verbal reporting format.
