FCC ban on foreign UAS and foreign made Critical UAS Components

What we know to date:

♦️On December 22, the FCC added foreign made UAS and foreign made critical UAS components to the FCC Covered List (Covered List). This far exceeds the reference language in the NDAA.

♦️This FCC action prevents the import of new models of ALL foreign UAS and critical UAS components (motors, batteries and more).

♦️This impacts both foreign and most, if not all, domestic UAS in some way because of the ban on critical UAS components as the present supply chain depends significantly on components made in foreign countries.

♦️This new action was a result of a determination by a federal Interagency Work Group on National Security that all foreign UAS pose an unacceptable national security threat.

♦️This ban does not impact current UAS models on the market today nor does it impact UAS already owned.

♦️Presently, there is no planned retroactive ban on foreign UAS or critical components. Also, if a retroactive ban was imposed, it would not impact use of existing UAS already owned.

♦️In order for foreign country UAS and components to be sold in the U.S., they must go through an exemption process by the Department of War or Department of Homeland Security. Information on this exemption process is forthcoming.

What we don’t know:

♦️The exemption process and how long it will take to go through this process.

♦️The impact American made drones.

♦️What this will do to cost of available UAS.
