Information for Public Safety and Emergency Response Operators
As part of ongoing security planning for the FIFA World Cup 2026, the System Operations Support Center (SOSC), in coordination with federal partners, is publishing a series of UAS TFRs to support FIFA team hotels, training camps, in locations across the United States. The TFRs will be in effect from June 01, 2026, to July 20, 2026. These restrictions are separate from the FIFA match and Fan Fest TFRs and are intended to enhance security around designated team lodging and training facilities.
What First Responders Need to Know
The FAA recognizes the critical role that public safety agencies play in protecting life and property. Accordingly, the FIFA hotel and training camp TFRs include a specific exemption for qualifying public safety operations. The TFR language states:
"UAS operations in direct support of an active national defense, homeland security, law enforcement, firefighting, or search and rescue mission are exempt from this TFR."
This means that authorized public safety agencies conducting legitimate emergency response, law enforcement, firefighting, search and rescue, or homeland security missions may operate within these TFRs without obtaining a Special Governmental Interest (SGI)* authorization from the FAA.
*Note: that operators must continue to comply with all other applicable FAA regulations, airspace requirements, and agency-specific operating procedures.
Commercial and Non-Public Safety Operations
Commercial Part 107 operators may request access to the restricted airspace through the FAA's SGI process. Requests must be submitted through: https://waivers.faa.gov
Operators must submit requests at least 72 hours prior to the planned operation and must possess a valid statement of work or other documentation demonstrating a legitimate operational need.
Planned TFR Coverage and Parameters
These locations represent more than 100 UAS security TFRs throughout the United States that will be active for portions of the FIFA tournament period.
While individual TFRs vary by location, the typical restriction:
Covers a 1 NMR centered on the protected site
Extends from the surface up to 400 feet AGL
Applies only to UAS operations
Remains in effect for the duration specified in the individual NOTAM, with the possibility of early cancellation
FAA Point of Contact
Each TFR NOTAM will include FAA contact information for questions regarding airspace access:
SOSC Special Events Contact Phone: 540-422-4034
Operators are encouraged to review current TFR information prior to flight by visiting:
The FAA remains committed to supporting public safety operations while ensuring the security of FIFA participants, venues, and associated facilities. The agency continues to work closely with federal, state and local law enforcement, emergency management agencies, and the public safety UAS community to ensure a consistent and transparent airspace access process throughout FIFA 2026.
