AIRT and AUVSI Florida Peninsula Chapter’s new Florida Public Safety Coordination Group will offer UAS-related demonstrations and content for event attendees
ORLANDO, FL – November 9, 2021 – The collective use of unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) by Florida public safety agencies, industry, academia, and non-profit organizations will complement automated, connected, electric, and shared vehicle technology programming at the 2021 Florida Automated Vehicles (FAV) Summit at the Rosen Shingle Creek Hotel from November 29 to December 1 in Orlando.
The Airborne International Response Team (AIRT), the leading 501(c)3 non-profit organization supporting the use of unmanned systems for public safety and disaster response and official home of DRONERESPONDERS®, and the Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International (AUVSI), the world's largest non-profit organization dedicated to the advancement of unmanned systems and robotics, will collaborate with the FAV Summit team to help educate summit attendees on how UAS – commonly referred to as “drones” – are supporting various public safety and disaster response missions throughout Florida.
“Unmanned aviation represents one of the fastest-growing segments of autonomous and connected vehicle systems technology,” said State Sen. Jeff Brandes, R-St. Petersburg. “We welcome the opportunity to highlight how all types of Florida organizations are using drones for good.”
Started in 2013, the FAV Summit assembles automated vehicles industry leaders from around the world to address technologies, operations, and policy issues. The FAV Summit mission is to help Florida create the ideal climate for the implementation and deployment of autonomous and connected vehicle technologies. Key topics for the 2021 FAV Summit will include content focused on automated, connected, electric, and shared (ACES) mobility, operations, law, infrastructure, functional design, cyber security, ethics, aftermarket products, enabling technologies, and public policy.
The 2021 FAV Summit will mark the first official event supported by the DRONERESPONDERS Florida Public Safety Coordination Group, a joint statewide project AIRT, and the AUVSI Florida Peninsula Chapter launched recently announced to support emergency services organizations using drones and other robotic systems to help save lives and protect property.
The DRONERESPONDERS portion of the FAV Summit programming will feature speakers from the following organizations and agencies:
AIRT
AUVSI
Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University
Florida Highway Patrol
Florida Power and Light Company
Orange County Sheriff’s Office
Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office
Southern Manatee Fire & Rescue District
“Public safety and emergency response missions are at the tip of the spear for helping to garner public acceptance of unmanned vehicles systems,” said Christopher Todd, Executive Director, AIRT. “We are excited to partner with AUVSI and the FAV Summit team to provide demonstrations and insight on how this amazing new technology will help shape the future of Florida.”
